D3.js, JavaScript, HTML/CSS
Impact
Demonstrates the foundation of my interactive visualization work: turning exploratory analysis into graphics people can actually interrogate and learn from.
D3.js visualizations portfolio
This page collects some of my earlier D3 work across demographics, regional data, and sports analytics. The projects are smaller than some of the more polished narrative pieces elsewhere in the portfolio, but they matter because they show the foundation of how I learned to think with interactive data visualization.
Included projects
- DC Demographics — interactive exploration of demographic patterns across Washington, D.C.
- Wizards Scoring — visualization of scoring patterns and game-level performance trends
- Virginia Demographics — geographic and chart-based exploration of county-level demographic variation in Virginia
What these projects taught me
These visualizations helped build the habits that still show up in my newer work:
- using interaction to reveal structure rather than just decorate charts
- thinking carefully about how people move through data
- making comparison easier through layout and visual hierarchy
- treating visualization as a form of analysis, not just presentation
Why they still belong here
I keep these projects in the portfolio because they show the roots of my D3 and front-end data-storytelling work. Even when the topics are lighter or more exploratory, the same instincts are there:
- curiosity about patterns
- a bias toward interactive explanation
- comfort working directly with data in the browser
- interest in the relationship between analysis and user experience
Takeaway
These projects are part of the path that led to my larger scrollytelling and infrastructure-focused visualizations. They are less about polished product thinking and more about showing the depth of my long-running interest in interactive data work.
